Fellow of ACCA (FCCA) and Fellow of IoDSA
John qualified as a Certified Accountant in 1980. He started his working career in 1969 with a firm of London stockbrokers before taking up professional qualifications whilst
working in internal audit and management accounting with the London Transport Executive. Desirous of broadening his experience, he and his wife came to Zambia in 1979 where,
as Management Accountant, he revitalised the costing systems and introduced performance management reporting. It was not long before John was brought to South Africa as Financial
Accountant and Later Financial Manager to set up the full accounting, administration and personnel functions. In 1984 John moved to Mr Cupboard, where he became Financial Director
of the retail division. The following year he joined a group of wholesalers, THUMB Management, as Operations Director. It was here, when negotiating with CAWUSA (now SACCAWU) over
recognition of the union, that John acquired his interest in industrial relations and became a consultant in 1986. Since that time John has been involved in servicing the needs of
clients in a broad range of industries.
Using his management experiences, John is able to advise clients in broader areas of management, finance and strategic planning. He uses
customised wage models to determine the true cost of employment in wage negotiations. He was the architect of the first three year wage agreement of the modern era which has become
the foundation of similar agreements in the motor and metal industries.
John adopts a practical approach to managing conflict which has minimised the extent of court action and
arbitrations amongst clients. He has assisted with sensitive amalgamation processes in which organisations have successfully coped with the integration of personnel from different
organisations. He enjoys training as the most effective medium to internalise skills in clients and to help develop mutual understanding of the perceptions and needs of the respective parties.
John provides a variety of remuneration services, strategic planing in both HR and business. He has extensive experience in the design and development of qualifications and unit standards and
holds ODETDP, assessor, moderator and verifier qualifications.
